The Name
"You were born in the hospital at New Prague, Minnesota," their mothers had told them ever since they could remember, and although they were aware that New Prague's Main Street was a county line where the north side was Scott County and the south side was LeSueur County, they saw that the present hospital was on the north side. Consequently, they grew up as friends who were comfortable with their Scott County Heritage.
Forty years later they discovered what their mothers had not told them. The old hospital was on the south side of Main Street.
Now, LeSueur County is a lovely place and the men are proud to have been born there, but the discovery of the location of the old hospital came as quite a shock. Instead of succumbing to a mid-life identity crisis, they and their lovely wives started a company with a name that mocked their pain. They called the company, "Two Guys From Scott County."

The Metamorphosis
After several years, the company dwindled from four people to just one man and wife team, but they kept the name "Two Guys From Scott County, Inc." because in Minnesota, the word guys is pretty darn generic.

The Mission
To tell the local story of rural America.

The Motivation
A story not told is lost forever.
Witnessing the steady decline of the rural landscape that once defined a way of life for much of Minnesota, the Two Guys realized that soon no remnants of the farming communities would remain. What would be remembered about the people who lived in small towns and on farms during the middle of the Twentieth Century? Would their stories go untold? Would the "truth" as told by history books and city folks from eastern publishing houses be fractured and diluted or would the stories generated by the struggles of thousands of rural Americans be simply ignored?
Two Guys decided that the local truth about rural America in 1950 needed to be told, and it needed to be told in a factual and entertaining format. Why not start with the story of Christmas Eve on a family farm? After all, children in the United States have been reading The Night Before Christmas for years. Why not create a rhymed story that shows what farm kids did on Christmas Eve in 1950? We published our first book, County Road Christmas Eve, less than a year later.
